Fine Art
Western, Wildlife and Landscapes
John
Alexander de Jong, his wife Heather and family live in the South-eastern corner
of British Columbia, Canada. His art started as a hobby and in 1984 he enrolled
in painting classes to fine tune his interest. An invitation to display his work
at a Cowboy Poetry Gathering has resulted in now attending various juried shows
throughout the year.
The focus of his subject matter is on western themes, but also
includes wildlife and landscapes. He draws much inspiration from the mountains
in the East Kootenay and its diverse, natural beauty, and his own personal experiences.
His artwork is collected by many corporate and private collectors
across Canada and internationally, has been the subject of a number of magazine
and newspaper articles, has received Artist of the Year awards for the Guide Outfitters Association of BC and has been filmed in an episode of the "Cowboy Country TV" show, which featured his western art. His art has also been shown at the CM Russel Museum in Great Falls, Montana in the Masters in Miniature Show. John has also been a featured poster artist for the Maple Creek Cowboy Poetry Art and Gear Show.
Future plans include an emphasis on painting the western
lifestyle and countryside and to communicate to others a way of life that is
tough, appealing and envied. |
